Open cabinet doors under sinks on outside walls.
Know where the main valve is.

February

Still cold

Watch for slowly falling water pressure.
Top up the floor drain trap.
Test toilets for silent leaks.

March

Melt begins

Test the sump pump before the melt.
Clear snow from around the foundation.
Check the sump discharge outlet isn't frozen.

April

Spring

Check the basement for damp spots.
Turn outdoor taps back on and check for leaks.
Read the hot water tank's age on its label.

Storm season starts

Make sure downspouts drain away from the house.
Open the cabin plumbing carefully.

June

Wettest month

Check washing machine hoses.
Clean faucet aerators.

Summer
