House in Regina, Saskatchewan

The Queen City

Regina is Saskatchewan's capital and its second-largest city, with 226,404 people at the 2021 census. It was renamed from Wascana, the "buffalo bones" site, to Regina in 1882 in honour of Queen Victoria, and became a city on June 19, 1903. Neighbourhoods from the Cathedral Area to the Crescents have homes that are more than a century old, often with original drains and service lines. See drain and sewer cleaning.

Prairie extremes

Regina has warm summers and cold, dry winters, and it is prone to extremes in every season. The record low is −50.0 °C, set on January 1, 1885, and the record high is 43.9 °C. Most of the year's precipitation falls from May to August, with June the wettest month, so summer storms can push sewers hard. Our storm guide explains what a backwater valve does.

How it works

One request. A plumber gets in touch.

Common questions

Do plumbers in Regina come out after hours?

Many take emergency calls at night and on weekends. The plumber who contacts you will tell you when they can arrive and confirm any after-hours charges first.

Should I let a tap drip in extreme cold?

A slow drip on a tap fed by a cold wall keeps water moving and makes freezing less likely. It's a sensible step during the coldest nights.

Is the sewer line my responsibility?

Usually from the house to the property line or city connection. The City of Regina can confirm where its part begins.

Is a tankless water heater worth it in Regina?

It can be for households that run out of hot water. Sizing it for very cold incoming water is important.

Do I need a permit for a backwater valve?

Usually, yes. Ask the plumber and check with the City of Regina about requirements and any programs.
