White City at a glance

White City is a town at Highway 48 and the Trans-Canada Highway, part of the White Butte region east of Regina. Its 2021 population was amended to 3,821, up 19.5 percent from 2016, on about 7.6 square kilometres.

Named for London

White City began on 80 acres owned by Pilot Butte resident Johnston Lipsett. It organized as a hamlet on April 26, 1959, became a village on March 1, 1967 and a town on November 1, 2000. The name came from White City in London, England, after local store owner John Kadannek persuaded Lipsett to name it for the home of his favourite aunt. In the decades since, the town has grown from a hamlet into one of the fastest-growing communities around Regina. Newer homes here may have backwater valves and sump pits; make sure you know where yours are and test them before the spring melt and summer storms.
